Some names that have stood out early on with at the Summer Havoc Live in Spartanburg

The July Live period is heating up this weekend as teams from across the nation make their way to Spartanburg, SC for Phenoms Summer Havoc. Tons of kids are in the gym this weekend hoping to earn looks from college coaches. Some of the players that stood out are as follows:

Rodney Rice, 6’2 2021 G with New World 2022 – Rodney got his event off to a great start showing that he is one to check as soon as the ball is in play. He has nice length and perfect frame for a young baller. Falls in love with his shot a bit more than you’d like to see but he is dangerous from outside as he knocked down several 3’s while we were court side. We would love to see him to continue to grow his game and become more of an attacking scorer but with his age, tools, and ability to connect from deep he has proven that he is one to keep an eye on for the future.

AJ Thompson, 5’7 G with Palmetto City Hurricanes – Webb is a compact but strong guard that knows how to attack on the offensive end. Everything he does is going to the lane. Despite his lack of size his strength allows him to bull through his defender, take contact, and get the bucket. Plays with good seed and his first step to the basket is a good one. Ceiling has a lot to do with how much he grows but speed and toughness are two traits always in demand. He has both.

Austin Locklear, 6’3 2021 G with Carolina Stars – Very impressive game on this rising freshman. Kid has a very advanced skill set already and has the type of game you’d expect to see on a senior. He can score at all levels, has nice handles, and a pretty shot with range easily out past the 3. Austin has a high ceiling on him and is one of the players you can expect to be a hot target in the 2021 class of NC before all is said and done.

James Lovorn III, 5’9 2021 G with Electric City Trail Blazers – James came out hot to start the game and never really cooled off. Not the biggest kid in the gym or the fastest but uses grit, savvy, and know how to get the job done. He can hit from anywhere on the floor as he has deep range but he can also put t on the floor and attack as he shows no fear. He has a comfort on the ball to suggest he could handle the PG spot but kid is wired to score. Impressive start to his weekend in game 1.

Alex King, 5’8 2020 G with PSB Select South Gold – If you look up gym rat in the dictionary this is what it would look like. Alex is a strong player that knows how to play the game and can run a team. He has range that allows him to be a threat from anywhere but unlike a lot of young shooters, he knows the difference between a good and bad shot. Picks his spots well and makes the most of his opportunities. Classic old school game to him.
