In an era where it feels like so many high-level prospects are looking to exit the state, the return of Elhadji Diallo to Combine Academy is a refreshing change of pace. For those who aren’t familiar, he was a young, blossoming prospect on multiple veteran-laden teams for the Goats. Diallo possessed an enticing physical profile and obvious intrigue as a long-term prospect prior to his departure. He went to play for Jellyfam on the OTE circuit (and New York Lightning) and continued expanding his overall game. Fast-forward to now, and the appeal is still evident. Let’s take a closer look at what he should bring to this group…
At 6-foot-7 with a long wingspan and strong, muscular frame, he has an array of quality physical tools. Diallo is a powerful athlete with the motor, rugged nature, and nose for the ball to consistently make life difficult for opponents. During his previous stint in North Carolina, he was largely seen as a big, athletic, defensive-minded forward with a growing offensive game. Now, it’s easy to see the strides he’s made as an all-around prospect. Diallo has clearly improved his ability off the bounce and perimeter jumper while maintaining his excellent rebounding presence and defensive versatility. He’s a quality finisher who can play above the rim or through contact with relative ease. His ability to reliably toggle between all positions defensively makes him an asset for any team.
Although he was already viewed as a top-ten prospect prior to leaving, Diallo should climb even higher given the recent turnover in North Carolina’s Class of 2026. He’s a legitimate game-changing defender and rebounder who has made clear developments within his general offensive identity. Now an impactful piece on both ends of the floor, he should be a major addition to a roster that has been fairly quiet over the recent months. Expect Diallo to shine as one of the top players in the state during his upcoming senior campaign.
