Team: East Rutherford
As of 1/27/26: 15-2 overall on the season/ 8-0 in Conference Play
As the high school basketball season across North Carolina moves deeper into its schedule, teams are beginning to separate themselves and establish identities as true contenders. Wins are stacking up, momentum is building, and programs around the state are making noise with their sights set on strong playoff runs. Phenom Hoops is taking a closer look at several teams putting together impressive seasons, highlighting the talent, depth, and consistency that continue to shape the high school basketball landscape across North Carolina.
A program of high interest has been East Rutherford, a team that we had a chance to watch this season at the Phenom 828 Showcase, where they took down East Lincoln in impressive fashion. The Cavaliers sit at 15-2 overall and have been cruising through conference play, looking like a sneaky team to watch come playoff time.
When you talk about this roster, this is a team that brings balance and experience. 2027 Blake Suttle has been impressive throughout with his activity around the basket, scoring and finishing at the rim, being active on the glass (8.8rpg), and impacting the game on the defensive end. 2027 Andre Staley and 2026 Micah King have also been tremendous as scoring presences, as Staley can create and knock down shots while King brings a strong frame that allows him to not only force the action but also showcases vision in finding teammates. Then you have a highly-intriuging freshman in 2029 Aiden Thomas, who displays a blossoming skillset with size, as he will be a name to watch in the coming years.
Overall, though, this is a roster that offers size, experience, depth and production, allowing the Cavaliers to be a tough matchup for any opponent. East Rutherford looks to finish out conference play, as they should be the favorite throughout and then look to make a strong push come playoff time.
