This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel to the Raleigh Convention Center to host our annual G3 Live Showcase. The event is set to feature an abundance of college-worthy talent and prospects for coaches at nearly every level. In addition to the countless names set to be on display, coaches will also have the opportunity to watch Darrion Ellis and Cohen Hyatt of Strictly Ballas. Both scholarship-level pieces, let’s take a closer look at each prospect…
In looking at Ellis, he’s a strong, well-rounded wing prospect with a polished skillset and the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. He’s a great athlete with length, toughness, and explosiveness. Ellis is comfortable making plays with or without the ball in his hands. He’s a capable creator who consistently gets downhill and applies pressure around the rim, but can also knock down jumpers along the perimeter. He knows how to move without the ball to find openings and capitalize. Ellis secures rebounds at a solid rate for his size and offers a physical defensive presence. At 6-foot-5 with his blend of IQ, skill, and athleticism, he should appeal to a lot of different programs.
Meanwhile, Hyatt is absolutely on the short list of best shooters in North Carolina. He’s a tough, crafty combo guard who can initiate the offense or play without the ball. Hyatt might appear somewhat unassuming at first glance but he’s a very physical, scrappy player who plays with a massive chip on his shoulder. He’s a knockdown spot-up threat who can fill it up from distance, attack closeouts at a quality rate, and make correct decisions with the ball in his hands. In addition to his shooting prowess, Hyatt is a terrific passer who sees the floor well when attacking. He offers a pesky defensive presence and knows how to position himself for success. Several types of programs could use a player like him.
