What to Watch at Phenom Team Camp Session II

This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel to Bermuda Run, North Carolina, to host our annual June Team Camp (Session II). The event always features a slew of the most talented teams and individuals within the Carolinas, and this year’s will be no different. Leading up to the event, we will take a closer look at players and subplots to monitor. It wasn’t too long ago when Myers Park was the top public school program in North Carolina. Now under new leadership with Coach Dory Hines, things could be potentially back on the rise. Let’s take a closer look….
It’s worth noting that this roster is still quite young. After graduating two key seniors, guys like Josh Hines, Ayo Awosanya, Niles Nelson, Loch Brezeault, Wyatt Sweet, and Mack Walters will each be expected to step up. Hines returns as the most productive scorer from last year’s squad. He’s an efficient option from all levels and rebounds very well for his size/position. Awosayna might have as much appeal as anyone on the roster. He’s a skilled wing/forward with the combination of size, athleticism, and versatility to cause matchup problems for opponents. Nelson is strong and athletic with the ability to apply constant pressure around the basket, both as a cutter and penetrating threat.
Guys like Brezeault, Sweet, and Walters should also provide meaningful production to this group. Brezeault is a steady, reliable floor general with the IQ, vision, and ball-handling to run the team. He also provides a useful scoring punch and defensive presence. Sweet knows how to fill in the gaps and bring useful energy on both ends of the floor. Walters is a capable glue-guy who can do a little bit of everything on the court. Although they still enjoyed quality success last season (going 17-11), the Mustangs should only continue to improve going forward.
