There is an old saying that history repeats itself and in this particular case, there may be some feelings of deja vu running through Guilford County.

If you haven’t heard by now the Langley twins Keyshaun and Kobe are headed back to Southwest Guilford for their senior seasons. It was just two years ago the dynamic duo led this same proud program to a state title. The twins will rejoin former head coach Guy Shavers who’s one of the most respected coaches in the prep ranks. One year removed from a state title, Shavers rallied a team through tragedy and into the postseason

Now a year later this group is more confident and mature, the Cowboys also have their star backcourt once again.

Wesleyan was great! National schedule, which is the main reason for the transfer. Gatlin left, so the twins decided that they wanted to finish their high school career back at Southwest playing for Shavers.” Keyford Langley the twins father told Phenom Hoops.

The transfer to Wesleyan Christian was beneficial for both parties. The Langley’s were battle tested through a national schedule and the Trojans turned in a good season that ended in a state championship game appearance. Former Wesleyan Head Coach Keith Gatlin moved on to the college ranks to take a position on the High Point University staff, and majority of the roster departed as well.

The brothers remained one of the top back courts in the hoop state. They continued to prove the doubters wrong, and delivered on the biggest stages pitted against some of the top ranked guards in the nation. Since their de-commitments from Virginia Tech the Langley’s have been on official visits to Unc Greensboro and High Point University.

Now back at Southwest they join a team that returns a lot of talent. The Cowboys have serious talent on the wings in 2019’s 6’4 Christian Martin and 6’5 Jaden Turner. The Langley’s first practice with the team was Monday and assistant coach Will Price likes what the Cowboys are showing early, he gave some takeaways and compared how this group stacks up to that state championship team.

“Adding Key and Kobe just brings 2 very very high IQ players and more importantly WINNERS. Twins first practice was Monday, and honestly, it was like they never left. Picked up everything we put in while sitting on sidelines last week. This team will be very unselfish, and the defense will be turned up for sure.” Coach Price told Phenom Hoops.

“Christian and Jaden are coming off strong summers, especially Jaden, expanding his game out to 3 point line. Comparison is that both teams had vets and battle tested players. Difference is this years team will be deeper. We will start 5 seniors so experience will be huge. Last time we won we started 2 seniors.”

“Talent wise this might be one of the best to come out of southwest. Were strong at all 5 positions , and really strong coming off bench.”
