This past weekend, Phenom Hoops had a great chance to watch and learn more about Davidson Day, a team that certainly will have the attention of many this season with the talent they bring to the court. Much of the talk is around the three bigs of 2026 Cody Peck, 2026 Will Stevens, and 2028 Xavier Hall, and deservingly so.
But this weekend at the #PhenomTipOff really showed just how strong and important the guard play for this team is, as they all deserve attention from fans and college programs around. This group of 2028 Sherod McCormick, 2026 Nick Arnold, 2026 Justyn Whitfield, and 2028 Omari Whiteside all bring something to the table that college coaches would like to have. We look to highlight each of them on what has been said as of late, as they have proved just how important they are to this team in helping lead the charge.
2028 Sherod McCormick
“Sherod McCormick continues to play at a high level. Another really good guard in the 2028 class. Quick, crafty playmaker who can create for himself and others, finish around the rim over size, and knock down perimeter shots.”
2026 Justyn Whitfield
“6’3 ‘26 Justyn Johnson-Whitfield (Davidson Day) was arguably the difference-maker in this contest. Provided scrappy defense, strong rebounding, and a consistent scoring punch. Scholarship-level piece.”
2026 Nick Arnold
“2026 Nick Arnold (Davidson Day) is simply a game-changer for his team. Does everything well, a pest defensively, tremendous creator for himself and others, embraces physicality, and a leader. College Coaches would love to have him on their team.”
2028 Omari Whiteside
“He’s a tough, skilled, high-motor guard prospect who consistently affects all facets of the game. Whiteside can assume creation duties and dictate the action as a floor general or place an increased emphasis on scoring the ball from all levels. He’s a rugged defender with the blend of quickness, instincts, and physicality to cause problems for opponents.”
