It has been a curious tale for 6’6 2017 Wes Morgan. About a year ago, Morgan went through an event where he averaged 6 threes per game. His name really blew up, but it was unique in the fact that no one had really seen him.
Fast forward through this year, his sophomore year at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Mike Craft led squad made a run all the way to the 4A North Carolina State Finals, where they dropped a heart breaker. It was a great run and an almost magical season for the team. However, the team was led by 8 seniors. This caused Morgan to not really hit the floor, but for only spot minutes.
Still, fast forward a year, not many people have seen Morgan play. After watching Morgan in an open gym last year Phenom Hoops wrote, “With a Senior heavy team, 6’5 Sophomore Wes Morgan will find a way into the line up. Morgan has a long frame with some surprising bounce. Morgan is a shooter, he does a good job spotting up for the kick out 3 and has a quick and confident release. Morgan can get rolling and make a flurry of shots in a row. This is a kid who’s game is very intriguing and will be curious to watch him develop as he continues to grow his frame.”
This Summer, travelling with his Ardrey Kell team, Morgan has taken on a leadership role. And he stepped up to the plate with his ability. Morgan has a long frame, and is a deft shooter off the catch. He is at his best in a system that gets him open looks as he has a great IQ moving off the ball. Morgan is a high energy defender who gives great effort.
College Coaches: You can see Morgan play with Boo Williams WAWG July 17-19 in Winston Salem, NC. Morgan has picked up two offers from Maryland Eastern Shore and UNC Greensboro.
