Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Dawson McAlhany
Class: 2022
Committed to: Hampden Sydney
What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
“He’s simply the type of player that seems to resonate and excite folks much more through an in-person viewing. Sure, McAlhany is a quality athlete and bouncy leaper, but his overall identity expands far beyond his ability to meet opponents at the rim. His general desire to improve and address any possible deficiencies within his skillset has been evident over the last few years. For example, McAlhany used to be very skinny, so he put in legitimate work to add strength and developed his frame. Although his production continued to shine and leadership qualities began to emerge, he still found attributes worth progressing. After getting stronger, McAlhany placed clear emphasis on becoming a reliable three-point shooter. Though folks were already on notice because of his athleticism and advanced abilities at a young age, the addition of an efficient stroke from beyond the arc would ultimately make him an all-around force.”
“He’s long, wiry, and steadily improving in all facets of the game (though he already produces at a reliable rate). The southpaw possesses craftiness as a penetrator, anticipation on defense, and knows how to effectively create for himself and others. McAlhany isn’t a prolific three-point shooter but is certainly respectable enough to make opponents pay, which opens up his quality midrange game quite nicely. He’s a fairly smart, well-rounded wing prospect with a lot of appealing tools and more toughness than meets the eye.”
“I think at this point it’s pretty clear that McAlhany should be viewed as a bonafide division one level prospect. His versatility at 6’5 with point guard like ball skills, vertical explosiveness, craftiness around the hoop, and a really improved perimeter jumper make McAlhany the best prospect on this Bishop roster. He played an integral role in their playoff run and had 9 huge points off the bench in the state title game. That experience will translate to an increased confidence level for McAlhany. He starting to realize how good he is and is further understanding how to apply his talents, making him achieve that blend of current productivity and long term potential. He has a chance to be the best player on the team this year, he’s a walking triple double threat, yes he’s that good. Expect Dawson to catch more attention for what he does on a game to game basis from college coaches, media, and hoop heads across North Carolina. He really has a chance to become a special player.”
