Finally, we’ve reached the point in the high school season when things begin to shift. Despite all the preseason competition, holiday showcases, and subplots throughout, this time is arguably as exciting as any period in the year. Each game has playoff implications. All kinks should be figured out, and teams should be hitting their stride. However, this is also the stretch when college coaches are hunting for potential diamonds in the rough. Although the state is filled with intriguing prospects in every area, it feels like not enough people are talking about Adam Grier and his impressive production for Ledford. Let’s take a closer look…
The two-sport athlete has been a quality varsity piece since entering high school. Grier is an excellent athlete with great size, skill, and two-way feel for the game. At 6-foot-4, he’s able to physically overwhelm the majority of opponents from the guard position. Although bigger than most floor generals, Grier has always possessed natural IQ and playmaking instincts. He excels at getting downhill, utilizing his handle, quickness, and ability to absorb contact to apply consistent penetrating pressure. Grier finishes effectively through contact and above the rim, but is always surveying to make the correct decision. He’s a sharp passer who sees the floor really well, especially in transition, and is capable of making precise passes with either hand. Grier is also a physical defender and terrific rebounder for his size/position.
This season, Grier is posting nightly averages of 14.9 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 6.6 APG, and 2.4 SPG while shooting 48% from the floor. Although his teammates throughout this roster provide quality contributions, Grier still leads the way in four of the five major statistical categories. The Panthers currently sit at 13-5 with arguably the most challenging stretch of their schedule coming up. College coaches would be wise to take a closer look at Grier over the coming weeks.
