There is so much talent to be found around the state of North Carolina, of all levels… and Phenom Hoops continues to bring the best coverage around for players to be seen. At the North Carolina Top 80 recently, many premier prospects attended the camp and put their game on full display. But it also allowed others to rise up to the occasion and showcase that they belong as well. One of those players that grabbed my attention at the NC Top 80 was 2027 6’1 Hunter McGrath of Hoggard high school.
McGrath is coming off a strong sophomore season in which he averaged 13ppg and shot 35 percent from behind the arc last season, but we expect those numbers to increase with an even bigger role. And he may have given us a glimpse of that at the camp.
McGrath was able to show that he is a fundamentally sound, team-oriented guard who consistently plays with poise and purpose. He thrives within the flow of the offense, making smart reads and contributing in multiple facets of the game. Confident in his perimeter shooting, McGrath spaces the floor effectively while maintaining an unselfish approach that raises the play of those around him. His blend of reliability, basketball IQ, and efficiency makes him a dependable and valuable asset on any roster.
And again, that was in a camp full of talent; at Hoggard, his role and impact should only increase as he will be one of the clear leaders on his team. With that, we expect a big season approaching for the 2027 guard, and he should only earn more looks from college programs.
