You may want to start watching out and learning the name… we are just going to warn you. But 2022 6’4 MJ Collins from Westminster Catawba could be in for a blow-up as far as recruitment and should be considered one of the top players in the state of South Carolina.
Collins has steadily improved his game over the years, from when we were watching him at Northside Christian and is now playing at a high level at Westminster Catawba. The junior is now playing his best basketball, as his blend of size, skill, shot-making ability, and feel for the game is quickly attracting eyes around the country.
For much of the year, he held an offer from Presbyterian, a school that has continued to stay in touch with him throughout the process. But he has now added an impressive offer from Murray State, one that could just be the start for this young man.
“Murray State, that was a big-time offer for me,” Collins told Phenom Hoops. “I talked to Coach Nichols all the time, that is my guy. I’m another kid from South Carolina; I believe I could be another Ja Morant for their program. I love the way they let their players play. That is going to be a big piece on where I commit it.”
It was a little surprising how long it took for programs to come his way but it seems that it is just starting, as there is quite an impressive list that has been reaching out and starting to show interest his way.
Schools like Clemson, Virginia Tech, George Washington, Elon, Appalachian State, Eastern Michigan, Houston, Charlotte, Illinois State, Morehead State, Belmont, East Tennessee, Georgia State, College of Charleston, VCU, Columbia, and Lehigh have all reached out and show some level of interest.
From what we have seen and the development Collins has made, this could be just the start and he could be a hot name to watch this summer.
