Well, we have a prospect that college coaches will want to jot down and check out more this summer, as 2028 6’10 Biar Deng could be one of those players.
Deng is one that we have watched in the past, and you can see the intrigue with his length, frame, mobility, and impact in certain areas. Our scouts below had this to say in the past after watching him:
2028 6’10 Biar Deng (Lab U) had some good flashes with his game. Athletic, bouncy, good footwork and feel with his game. One can see he has some intriguing factors in his game that make him an interesting prospect to watch.”
“Deng is an intriguing long-term prospect with plenty of upside. Standing 6’9 with a wiry frame and long wingspan, he displays impressive activity around the rim. His quick second jump, rim-running ability, and willingness to compete inside helped him produce throughout the event. As his skill set continues to develop, Deng projects as a high-upside prospect to track moving forward.”
Fast forward to today, and with a recent viewing of the big man, Deng still possesses those intangibles that make you ask yourself, “What could he be?” As far as where he excels on the court, Deng does a great job with his overall mobility, being able to chase down blocks and use his athleticism and impressive wingspan to alter shots as well as being active on the glass. And he continues to add levels of his offensive game overall, as he has used a strong summer to develop many areas of his game.
“My summer was good,” Deng told Phenom Hoops. “I played well with CP3, but we fell short in the end. I feel like my game has developed a lot. When I’m in the key, I feel like I can dunk on anybody, and I feel I can protect the rim very well with my 7’4 wingspan.”
That was noticeable when watching Deng in action, and we believe he will only continue to get stronger and add more to his overall feel at Combine Academy. Right now, he doesn’t hold any offers, but with a strong high school season, the early interest could turn into offers.
In speaking with him, High Point, Virginia Tech, UNCG, Furman, La Salle, and Oregon State have all shown interest as of right now.
With his combination of size, mobility, athleticism, and a 7’4 wingspan, Deng possesses tools that are difficult to teach. As he continues developing his strength and offensive skill set at Combine Academy, expect more college programs to take notice and his recruitment to gain momentum.
