Last week, Coach Gray and Coastal Carolina came into North Carolina and secured commitments from Q Williams (Forsyth Country Day) and Jordan Buzzard (Carmel Christian). Both players held multiple Division I offers, but decided to call it for the Chanticleers. This article will take a closer look at what each guy could potentially bring to the table…

In looking at Williams, he’s a smart, smaller guard who knows how to run a team, get others involved, and pick his spots as a scorer. He possesses a compact frame, which allows him to absorb contact on drives and finishes. Williams’ foundation was designed as a true point guard and highly unselfish playmaker. While he still prioritizes creating for others, it’s easy to see the strides he’s made as a scorer. Williams is a quality shooting threat from midrange and beyond the arc. He has the ability to knock down jumpers off the catch or bounce and highlights a useful arsenal of runners/floaters when attacking. Williams dictates the action with pace and poise. Defensively, he knows how to position himself for success at the point of attack. Williams anticipates well to force turnovers and push the break in transition.

Meanwhile, Buzzard is someone who seems to show improvements with each new viewing. He’s a mobile athlete with a nice combination of size, length, and toughness. Buzzard is a quality finisher who can play above the rim or finish with touch. He’s a capable floor-spacing option who understands how to navigate the two-man game as a screener. Although Buzzard continues to make strides offensively, his defensive prowess is arguably the most appealing part of his game. Between his ability to force turnovers, protect the rim, and switch across multiple positions, he’s a real nightmare for opponents. Add in his consistent rebounding presence, and it’s easy to see the appeal.
