When you talk about the Eastern Plains Conference, you first start with Farmville Central. It has been a championship-caliber program over the years that looks to be doing much of the same this season as well. And recently, they defeated SW Edgecombe 87-64 on Tuesday night but that doesn’t mean you should look into the score but more of open your eyes to what first-year head coach Michael Mosley is doing early on at the SW Edgecombe program.

Before Mosley, it was coach Shelton Langley, who took over in 2014-15 and eventually built a winning team in 2019-20 where the Cougars finished 19-7 last season. That team lost seven seniors, including four of their top five scorers. Now, Coach Mosley has taken over the program and is off to a 6-1 start, with their only loss coming from Farmville Central.

Through seven games though, this is a program that has a balanced attack once again and a mixture of juniors and seniors. Four players are averaging double-figures to start the season, the Cougars are averaging nearly 67 points per game, and they do a nice job in sharing the ball and getting on the boards.

Senior Rayshun Wooten leads the way at 18.3ppg, 7.9rpg, while junior Xavier Mayo is not far behind averaging 16.1 points, 4.7 assists. Seniors Jaden Richardson and Jaquan Wilkins are doing a nice job in playing their role, both averaging 10ppg and getting on the boards (combining for 15 rebounds a game). Behind them, they have senior players that understand and play their roles on the court.

Though they are coming off their first loss against a very talented Farmville Central, Coach Mosley and the Cougars seem to be an intriguing team to watch and are off to a terrific start to the season. Make sure you check them out this season.
