Player: Reese Alston
Class: 2027
Height: 6’2
School: Second Baptist

Soaring back to this past summer at the Seros Invitational with Phenom Hoops, we had a great opportunity to watch one of the top guards in the country in action, as 2027 Reese Alston led the charge for Cooz Elite. Already ranked as one of the top guards in the country, our own scout Jeff Bendel had this to say after the event:

“Although there were countless notable names on display, Reese Alston might’ve been the most impressive prospect in attendance. As the design of true point guards continues to steadily decline, someone like Alston reaffirms what makes a real floor general so important. He possesses an incredibly high IQ, unique level of awareness, and effortless ability to make the correct play literally every single possession. In nearly a decade of watching players, no point guard has shown this level of poise or meticulousness within their playmaking sense. Alston completely controls the game. He removes the need for others to improvise, as he consistently puts teammates in ideal scoring positions. Alston plays with amazing pace, never rushed or bothered by opposing defenders, and is able to reliably get where he wants off the bounce. He showed the ability to score with relative ease, but clearly prioritizes setting up others as often as possible. Add in his quality defensive presence, and it’s easy to see why Alston is regarded as one of the top players in the nation. He should be a target for basically every program in the country.”

Phenom Hoops wanted to catch up with Alston on all that has been going on with him, as he has certainly been one of the top targets for many schools in the Class of 2027. Check out the latest.

Development and Season:

“It has been going well,” Alston told Phenom Hoops. “My main focus is just doing winning things for my team the whole game. I would say me as a player overall (in regards of how his game continues to take the next step_, just knowing where to be on the court.”

Recruitment Update

In speaking with Alston recently about his recruitment, it seems things have been steady with one of the top guards in the country. He has already taken multiple visits to schools in the past including Louisville, Houston, Kentucky, and Wichita State, and he now has another one lined up in the next few weeks.

“All are great programs (that I have visited),” he told Phenom Hoops. I have Purdue on January 24th coming up, that is the only one as of right now.”

“They have been just building a relationship with me and using Braden Smith as a pitch for me,” Alston continued about his relationship with the staff at Purdue.

Alston holds a ton of offers from all around the country, as he is a heavily targeted guard with many. But when we asked him about who he sees right now being strong with him, he had this to say:

“Houston, Purdue, Texas, SMU, and Kentucky.”

What will be interesting to see, though, with Alston is if or when new schools, or schools that have already offered, enter back into the picture. Alston looks to make his decision “sooner rather than later is the goal” concerning his commitment, so things could start ramping up quickly in the next few months.
