Each year, there are various prospects who get overlooked despite consistently outperforming “higher-level” opponents. These guys typically struggle to get recruited for one reason or another. The most common deterrents are lack of size and athleticism. Plenty of schools will take a 6-foot-6 freak athlete regardless of the player’s attitude or baggage. It’s disappointing to see kids work hard to truly maximize their abilities only to be bypassed in favor of someone with a better genetic makeup. That being said, there are a lot of positive things to say about Bryson Mickey committing to William Peace.

We’ve legitimately spoken about Mickey in the highest possible regard, simply because he continually succeeds. We’ve seen him torch opponents in every possible setting, recently stating, “Given his continued success throughout the high school season, it’s truly shocking that Mickey doesn’t have any opportunities to play at the next level. He’s a crafty, skilled guard who simply outworks and outproduces his peers. Mickey is an incredibly balanced player who can fill it up as a scorer from all levels or set the tone as a playmaker. He possesses a sturdy frame but displays the necessary feel and change of pace to get where he wants off the bounce. Mickey sees the floor extremely well and is capable of making almost any pass on the court. Add in his polished scoring arsenal, scrappy defensive presence, and leadership by example, and he should have more chances to prove his worth at the college level.”

So, what will he bring to the Pacers? Mickey is a hard worker who has consistently elevated his game and improved his body over the years. He’s a refined playmaker with the IQ, pace, and unselfishness to effortlessly operate as a primary creator. Given his terrific pace, Mickey doesn’t require a ton of quickness to break down opponents off the dribble. He’s a crafty ball-handler and sharp passer who sees the floor extremely well at all times. Mickey is an excellent shooter who utilizes jabs and ball-fakes to effectively create space for himself. His instincts and general awareness allow him to consistently make plays with the ball in his hands. Mickey should be a great addition to the Pacers.
