Unsigned Senior Sleepers – Part 2:
6’4″ Ahmad Jeffries (New Garden Friends)
The 6’4 walking bucket has gone bonkers in the early stages of his senior season, Jeffries has taken major strides over the last year.
This season for New Garden Friends Jeffries is averaging 34 points, three assists, six rebounds, and, two steals, per game. Coming in this year the staff was counting on Jeffries to take on an even bigger role than previous seasons, he would have to give more.
Ahmad responded by improving his scoring total by 14 pts in one year, he is also averaging career highs in rebounds and steals. Jeffries has been the leader for the Bears early who sit at .500 on the season (2-2).
After burying Caldwell Academy with a step back three for the win everyone was put on notice Jeffries was coming different this season.
“ Ahmad has taken a huge jump his senior season, he showed flashes early in his career with big performances here and there but now it has clicked that he’s the guy.” Assistant Coach Jake Honeycutt said.
In the contest against Caldwell Jeffries handled immense defensive pressure all game, the Eagles face guarded him for the entire game. The Bears trailed in the final seconds of the contest but Jeffries refused to let his side fall.
“ He demonstrated his confidence and composure when we were down two with seven seconds to go against Caldwell Academy. He nailed the game winning three as time expired and finished with 30 points, I think his confidence reached a new level after that performance and there is no turning back.” said Coach Honeycutt.
At this point in the season Jeffries has not only been one of the top scorers in the state, but he’s one of the most efficient scorers. Jeffries has drained 27 threes in four games and he’s hitting them at 41 percent a clip. Jeffries game looks polished and complete, he is attacking the boards relentlessly and has transformed into a better leader overall.
So far Jeffries holds one offer from Bluefield College, but due to recent play colleges at higher levels have begun to wake up. Winston Salem State, The Citadel, Lees McRae College, and James Madison, have all shown interest as of late.
Jeffries has the talent and basketball I.Q. to play at the division one level, shooting always translates and he will also take pride on the defensive end.
NGF dropped their most recent contest 73-78 to undefeated Elevation Prep Academy (3-0). Jeffries finished with 39 points, four dimes, and nine boards in the effort, Ahmad has proven no matter the level of competition he will get buckets on the hardwood.
