Player: Julian Tweedy
Class: 2028
School: Cary Academy
AAU: SW15H Elite

It was a great weekend of basketball for us scouts at the Phenom Stay Positive, as we had a great opportunity to watch new teams, new players, and familiar faces to check in on their development. One player that we were certainly excited to see was 2028 6’7 Julian Tweedy, who will be playing with SW15H Elite this summer.

Tweedy has always been an intriguing prospect in my eyes, especially with the potential in his development and overall skill. Tweedy shows a lot of promise, but he is one that I could easily see play at the next level and continue to grow as a prospect. There are a lot of early factors in his game that stand out with his body, frame, size, and development, showing his ability to be an impact player on both ends. Tweedy does a great job in being a tough matchup with his ability to handle and make plays off the bounce, finish in the paint, and ability to stretch the floor at his size. But his impact can be felt on both ends of the floor as well, with his presence on the glass, defending inside and out, and altering shots.

Again, though, this is a prospect that could be a long-term play, as I could easily see him entering the collegiate level and only getting bigger, stronger, and developing his overall feel even more, making him a prospect worth monitoring and learning about now. From what we saw, the potential is all there, and we shall see if it all comes together as Tweedy continues to put in the hard work.  His recruitment is also just starting, as schools should continue to get into the mix with him this summer.

What Was Said:

“It’s been evident for several years that 6’7 Julian Tweedy has the tools to be a special player. He continues to tap into his upside and make steady strides in his progression as a long, fluid athlete with a versatile identity on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he’s able to create matchup problems with his combination of size, ball skills, and creation ability off the dribble. Tweedy is able to post up smaller players, get downhill with ease, and make quality decisions with the ball in his hands. He sees the floor well as a passer, especially for his size. Tweedy finishes effectively around the basket and can knock down jumpers at a respectable rate. In addition to being a malleable offensive piece, he’s able to secure rebounds and wreak havoc with his switchable defensive presence. Tweedy’s terrific length, athleticism, and instincts allow him to toggle across multiple positions (both up and down a lineup) and block shots or force turnovers at a strong frequency. Already a notable talent, he still has a ton of potential remaining.”
