Last weekend, Phenom Hoops hosted our largest Live Period yet. Not only did we return to the Raleigh Convention Center for our G3 Live, but we also had a considerable number of teams at our Rock Hill Live. The event in Raleigh always seems to draw a ton of teams and college coaches, and this circumstance was no different. There was a healthy amount of next-level talent on display, featuring plenty of new faces and players who were already big targets for college programs. This includes BCB Select, which continues to surge as an overall group. Let’s take a closer look at some of their main pieces…
Starting with Casey Mitchell, a long, wiry wing/forward who easily stood out among their top performers at our G3 Live. At 6-foot-5 with excellent athleticism and an intriguing frame, he’s able to consistently make plays on both ends of the floor. Mitchell excels at putting pressure on the rim, especially in transition, and finding ways to fill in the gaps within the flow of the action. He anticipates well to force turnovers and push the break in transition. Mitchell plays above the rim and is capable of using his length to finish over defenders. He’s a capable floor-spacer who can attack off the bounce within a few dribbles. Due to his body still developing, Mitchell should still have plenty of upside remaining.
Meanwhile, Kelcey Barber provides a balanced identity from the point guard position. He’s a smart, unselfish creator who can reliably generate clean looks for himself and others off the bounce. He’s a smooth shooter, both off the catch and bounce, with the ability to create his own shot or operate as a spot-up threat. Barber does a nice job of utilizing his IQ and pace to effectively navigate off the bounce and set up others in scoring positions. He’s a steady defensive piece who plays with energy, makes hustle plays, and gets to his spots well in transition. Barber is a key contributor for this group.
Rounding out this trio, Gabe Diaz would be a meaningful addition for a variety of programs looking to fill out their roster. He’s a versatile, well-rounded guard with great size and an adaptable identity on both ends of the floor. Diaz is a terrific shooter who can move without the ball, find open seams, and capitalize on open opportunities at a high consistency. However, he’s more than capable of asserting himself as a creator and overall threat off the bounce. Diaz mixes it up well from all levels and makes quality decisions when touching the paint. He’s an impactful defender who contains his assignment and forces turnovers at a nice rate. In addition to being a standout for Jordan, he’s continued to produce throughout the travel ball season.
