Huntersville, N.C. (October 2025) – After deep consideration and a full evaluation of his options, 6-foot-3 guard Ashton Pierce of North Mecklenburg High School has committed to play his collegiate basketball for the Sacramento State Hornets.

Pierce’s recruitment list included a wide range of Division I programs. He received offers and high-level interest from schools including East Carolina University, Wake Forest University, Mississippi State University and others. He visited Sacramento State in September, among other stops, and ultimately felt that the Hornets provided the best environment for his growth—both on and off the floor.

At 6-3 Pierce has the size and frame to guard multiple positions and impact the game in a variety of roles. Evaluations of Pierce highlight his ability to read the floor, make smart decisions in transition, and quietly impact games beyond the box score. With championships already under his belt at the high school level, Pierce understands what it takes to compete and expects to bring that mentality to Sacramento State.

Pierce has long been considered one of the rising guards in the 2026 class out of North Mecklenburg, bringing a well-rounded skill set: strong handle, court vision, ability to create off the dribble, and defensive tenacity. With Sacramento State, Pierce sees a program on the rise and an opportunity to contribute early.
