What to Watch at Phenom Team Camp Session II

This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel to Bermuda Run, North Carolina, to host our annual June Team Camp (Session II). The event always features a slew of the most talented teams and individuals within the Carolinas, and this year’s will be no different. Leading up to the event, we will take a closer look at players and subplots to monitor. After a highly successful season (30-3 and runner-up in the title contest), there should be a lot of intrigue surrounding the next-look Spartans. Let’s take a closer look….
They basically graduate every one of their rotation pieces outside of Morman, however, this group still has the potential to surprise folks. The highly regarded floor general will likely take yet another step in his progression and general status as a leader. Coming off a very productive freshman campaign, Morman will likely need to score the ball more in order for this group to maximize its resources. He’s a smart, balanced point guard who effortlessly dictates the action while scoring the ball in a variety of ways. His vision, pace, and ability to change speeds makes him a real problem for opponents. Morman is also a pesky defender who simply elevates both the floor and ceiling of this group.
Regarding the rest of the roster, Jakari Glaspie and MJ Ashley are two guys who should take massive steps forward. Glaspie possesses college-level ability as a long, skilled guard who can score in various ways, create for others, and make plays defensively. He’s comfortable operating in a role or expanding his production as needed. Meanwhile, Ashley is a strong, sturdy guard who can knock down shots at a consistent clip from the perimeter. He’s a solid defender and capable passing threat. It’ll be interesting to see what other pieces emerge within the Spartans’ roster, but there’s certainly a lot to like about their direction going forward.
