It’s no secret that North Carolina is full of talented players of all ages. While it’s not uncommon for older prospects to exit the state and head for bigger programs, we’ve learned how to enjoy watching these guys while they are still young and developing. On one hand, it provides a clearer understanding of the foundational toolkit and overall individual. In turn, this relays a lot of what will need to happen in order for said player to ultimately make it in the long run. Sometimes it’s physical development while other times it’s playing harder or becoming more mature. There are no exact measurements to the science, but something that you know when it’s evident. That being said, it feels like Aiden Thomas is definitely ahead of his peers at this stage in his development. Let’s take a closer look…

Though young, there are already several things that stand out about Thomas and his overall approach to the game. For starters, he’s already a long, fluid athlete with a nice amount of strength and physicality. Thomas plays hard and with a sense of toughness on both ends of the floor. His high motor, particularly on the glass, allows him to consistently outwork opponents to secure extra possessions and convert second-chance opportunities.  Thomas finishes well around the basket, both above the rim and through contact, but also appears comfortable posting up, spacing the floor, and attacking off the bounce as needed.

He’s also a capable and willing passer who doesn’t need to score to impact a game. Between his ability to wreak havoc defensively and make his presence constantly felt on the glass, Thomas is more than capable of operating as a pure workhorse if he wants. Add in his general feel and two-way involvement, and there’s already a lot to like about his game. Should he continue on this current trajectory, Thomas should be among the top prospects in his class.
