Just a few months ago, Phenom Hoops was up in Virginia for the Phenom 757, giving a nice viewing for several college programs of players around the region and also ones that have gone under the radar that could be nice steals for a school.
One player that came away with a ton of buzz was 2022 6’9 Khouri Carvey, a big that certainly looked to be a next-level type prospect that would appeal to college coaches. After the event, we mentioned that Carvey was certainly a stock-riser from the event, as we had this to say:
“Carvey was one of the first players I watched this weekend, wanting to see more of his game, how he operates and his development. A lot of boxes were checked with his game, as the 6’9 big man was fluid, used his body well, and loved that he could move well throughout the floor. Carvey brings a big frame that helps him down low in the post but moves/ quick reactions with his post moves to go along with his soft touch around the rim. He really made his presence known on both ends and on the boards, which is why he is one that should be garnering a lot more interest after his play in Virginia.” – Patrick O’Brien
Well, it seems that his game is starting to catch on more, as Carvey earned his first Division I offer last week. Over the weekend, Carvey announced that he had earned an offer from North Carolina A&T, one that he certainly is happy about.
“I’m super excited about it but I am still waiting and not going to rush anything,” he told Phenom Hoops. “I was invited to their camp weeks back and the camp was over the weekend. I was getting some good work in, did some full-court runs, and it all went well and after the camp was over, they gave me a tour around the campus and I finally sat down and had a great opportunity to talk to the coach and I got the offer.”
“I like how they treat everybody, like guard-wise and big-wise,” Carvey continued talking about NC A&T. “They wanted all of us to use our own skills instead of having a big where you just stay on the block.”
Carvey certainly could continue to see his stock rise but he showed lately at the Phenom 757 and through multiple other events, that this is a big that can help a team at the next level with his unique skill set and mobility at his size.
