Phenom Hoops is always looking for hidden gems around the country, and we may have stumbled upon one in Rock Hill (SC) at the Phenom MDC with 2028 6’2 Porter Dickson. We have talked about him quite a bit but he left a lasting impression overall with his play, as he has a chance to be a big target for many schools around the region.
We started our event off wandering over to the court to check out FBC Reign and while sitting down to watch, Dickson wasted no time in proving to be a dynamic weapon on the court. He played with a ton of confidence, and I loved his ability to not only be a big threat with a quick release from outside with his shot-making, but he also did a great job of making plays for others. Dickson moves well without the ball, looking for his spots, and doesn’t need much time to get his shot off from all over. But he didn’t force things that weren’t there, looking to play within the offense, create and dish to his teammates for easy buckets, and show a high IQ feel for the game. There is no doubt that he is a college-level player, and he has quickly put his name on our radars to watch more down the road.
What Was Said:
“He’s a smart, skilled, well-rounded guard who reliably runs the team as a focal point. Dickson is a very polished scorer with the ability to consistently create clean looks and mix it up from all three levels. He sets up others whenever possible, but doesn’t shy away from available scoring chances. Dickson handles the ball well to break down defenders off the bounce. He’s able to touch the paint and finish or knock down jumpers at a high percentage along the perimeter. Dickson displays a crafty nature when creating for himself and others, and sees the floor really well when attacking. He possesses nice size with a solid frame and athleticism. Dickson plays with great energy on defense and positions himself well to force turnovers. He’s a quality rebounder for his size/position and understands how to dictate the action in transition.”
“Dickson was another newer name for us at the event but he quickly caught our attention with his overall play. The 6’2 prospect was an absolute shot-maker with a quick release, not wasting any time and shooting the ball with range as well as confidence. He got to his spots well, moved without the ball, and also captured our attention with his court awareness and vision, facilitating well to other teammates.”
