Team: North Meck

As of 1/30/26: 15-3 overall and 5-0 in the Meck Power Six 7A/8A Conference

As the high school basketball season across North Carolina moves deeper into its schedule, teams are beginning to separate themselves and establish identities as true contenders. Wins are stacking up, momentum is building, and programs around the state are making noise with their sights set on strong playoff runs. Phenom Hoops is taking a closer look at several teams putting together impressive seasons, highlighting the talent, depth, and consistency that continue to shape the high school basketball landscape across North Carolina.

North Meck has been a winning program for many years, and they continue to be a title contender each season.  Led by head coach Duane Lewis and company, the Vikings always seem to find their names near the top of the list when it comes to top teams in the state. Coming into the season, North Meck had a few questions about the new-look roster, but they have proven themselves again in a big way as they hope to secure yet another state title.

That couldn’t have been more evident Thursday night, as the Vikings hit the road to West Charlotte in what was a hostile environment.  West Charlotte seems to be a rising power with a ton of talent, but it was the Vikings’ experience and team mentality that were able to overcome and secure the 69-64 road win. When you talk about this roster, 2026 Ashton Pierce is the name that instantly stands out as the senior guard is now the clear leader and offensive weapon on the court for his team. A guard, who is committed to Sacramento State, is looking for yet another title, as Pierce flourishes with his ability to score from all levels on the court.

But when you talk about this year’s team, this North Meck team brings a strong team mindset and balanced attack, having others really step up in critical times. On Thursday night, 2026 ExZavier Young was huge around the basket and with his mid-range game, but he has been consistent in playing bigger down low and bringing that energy. You also had players like 2026 Wilson Estwick, 2027 Alek Lewandoski, 2026 Alex White, and 2028 DJ Lindsey Jr. all step up when they needed, finding ways to score, create for themselves, and make critical defensive plays as well. This year’s team has experience to go along with balance, as this roster might not have the star power as years past but they play as a team. They understand where they are needed, they understand when to step up, and they understand what it takes to win games…

North Meck once again showed why it remains one of the premier programs in the state, displaying toughness and a collective approach that continues to translate into wins. As the season progresses and the competition intensifies, the Vikings appear to be hitting their stride at the right time—leaning on leadership, depth, and a clear understanding of their identity. If Thursday night was any indication, this is a group built for the long haul and capable of making another serious postseason push. Expect North Meck to remain firmly in the championship conversation as they continue to prove that team basketball, experience, and execution still set the standard for success in North Carolina.
