Finally, we’ve reached the point in the high school season when things begin to shift. Despite all the preseason competition, holiday showcases, and subplots throughout, this time is arguably as exciting as any period in the year. Each game has playoff implications. All kinks should be figured out and teams should be hitting their stride. However, this is also the stretch when college coaches are hunting for potential diamonds in the rough. Although the state is filled with intriguing prospects in every area, folks should be paying attention to the consistent production from Bryan Little. Let’s take a closer look…
Although the Piedmont Panthers have seen varying levels of success over the recent years, they always seem to have at least one college-level prospect on their roster. In addition to their variety of intriguing pieces, Little is clearly the leader and focal point of this group—and his production echoes this sentiment. He’s currently averaging 22.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 1.6 SPG, and 1.2 BPG while shooting an insanely high 72% from the floor. The 6-foot-6 big man really embraces his identity and does a phenomenal job of playing to his strengths on both sides of the ball. Additionally, he’s had 11 double-doubles so far this season.
Given his steady, straightforward approach to the game, he should definitely be a strong target for next-level coaches. He’s already built like a tank and possesses a college-ready frame. Little has great length to pair with his powerful frame and nice mobility. Unlike so many big men these days, he actually wants to operate around the basket. Little is a very capable post scorer with soft touch and the necessary strength to finish through tons of contact. He’s a willing passer out of the post. That being said, Little’s greatest asset might be his ability to carve out space and control the glass as a rebounder. It’s very difficult to envision many high school players who are more physically prepared for the college game. Regardless, Little should be a priority for several programs.
