It is a great day to be a Duke fan, as it was announced that they had earned a commitment from one of the top guards in the country in 2026 Deron Rippey Jr. Phenom Hoops has had a chance to watch Rippey on several occasions, and our own Patrick O’Brien has pegged him as the top point guard in the country.  When discussing his game and impact, it can be felt all over the court. Rippey demonstrates an excellent feel as a playmaker and scorer as a point guard, showcasing elite vision and passing ability, as well as being excellent in transition and off the bounce. He can score from multiple levels, displaying tremendous athleticism as well as shot-making, but also makes his impact felt on the defensive end as well.

The Blue Devils seem to be building another top class for 2026, as Rippey will be joining a loaded class with Bryson Howard, Cam Williams, and Maxime Meyer so far. Rippey decided to commit to Duke over Miami, Texas, Tennessee, and NC State.

What Has Been Said By Phenom Hoops:

“When you watch Rippey Jr. take the floor, it’s clear he plays the game at a different level. His combination of skill, IQ, and athletic ability makes him one of the most well-rounded guards in the country, and his trajectory continues to point his way as the No. 1 point guard in the country. Rippey impacts every facet of the game—his control, confidence, and ability to elevate those around him set him apart. He’s dynamic as both a scorer and playmaker, blending elite burst, advanced pace, and strong decision-making. Rippey can finish through contact, score off the bounce, or knock down shots from the perimeter with consistency. Yet what truly stands out is his vision and unselfishness—he sees plays develop before they happen, makes timely passes, and leads effectively in transition. Paired with his competitive edge and commitment on the defensive end, Rippey embodies the complete modern point guard—one you trust to lead, create, and deliver when it matters most.” – Patrick O’Brien
