This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel to Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina for another exciting holiday event. Between the individual talent and collection of noteworthy teams, there are a lot of subplots and storylines worth monitoring across the three days. Let’s take a closer look…

Young Talent Floods the Court

Although the event is filled with several intriguing matchups, one could argue that West Charlotte versus Queens Grant will have as much talent as any contest. The Lions certainly have a strong history of success over the years, but this might be their strongest team in recent memory. Meanwhile, the Stallions continue to rapidly rise as one of the top up-and-coming programs in North Carolina. There’s no shortage of prospects on either side, so it’ll be fascinating to see who performs.

For West Charlotte, it’s common knowledge that star sophomores Kaharri Coleman and Chacho Womack lead this group. Coleman is an incredibly dynamic lead guard with the feel, pace, and explosiveness to dominate opponents. Womack is already one of the most electric scorers in the state, but continues to grow and blossom as an all-around piece. That being said, guys like AC Pressley and Jkhai Wade also play extremely important roles for this group. Pressley provides a scrappy, well-rounded presence from the guard position while Wade is a strong, physical forward who excels at doing the dirty work.

On the other side, Queens Grant has found a ton of success despite their lack of veteran pieces. Their sophomore trio of Chase Smith, Mekhi Allen, and Bobby Montgomery carries a sizable load for this squad. Smith is a highly productive big man who provides touch, rebounding, interior defense, and floor-spacing ability. Allen continues to steadily progress as an athletic shot-making wing, but still has considerable upside remaining. Montgomery is a lethal shooter with vision and toughness. Juniors Preston Scott and Cannon DeBerry also bring a lot of value to this team. Scott is a tough, heady, team-first guard who suffocates opponents defensively while DeBerry is an explosive big man who wreaks havoc as a defender and rebounder. It should be an exciting contest from start to finish.
