As the high school season approaches the halfway point, everyone should have a much clearer picture of contending teams, breakout players, and everything in between. Although there hasn’t been a ton of parity this year, it’s arguably been one of the most interesting and entertaining seasons in recent memory. Every contest seems to have some takeaway or subplot to monitor. Combine Academy has several. Arguably, the most perplexing situation is why Elhadji Diallo is still available. Let’s explain why this is ridiculous…
The 6-foot-7 forward returned to Combine Academy earlier this year, but the buzz hasn’t followed. Why? Regardless of team success, he’s been efficient and productive. On the Overtime circuit, Diallo is averaging 17.2 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 1.5 BPG while shooting 52% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. What are we talking about here? It would be one thing if Diallo lacked production, but he’s posting impressive numbers across the board. Mind you, he’s posting lofty scoring totals while often being one of the best defenders in the gym. Diallo is a strong, physical athlete with long arms and excellent toughness. He plays through constant contact on both ends of the floor.
Diallo is simply an asset. He’s a low-maintenance forward who knows how to consistently produce within the flow of the action. Diallo finishes through contact and above the rim, but can also knock down midrange jumpers or space the floor at a reliable percentage. He’s a terrific defender with the instincts and physical tools to reliably anchor the paint or switch across multiple positions. He’s only received one offer (Hofstra) in the last twelve months, which just doesn’t make sense. Diallo can be an immediate contributor for a variety of different programs and, given his experience in high-level competition, would be a seamless addition at the next level. He should see a burst in his recruitment soon.
