2026 Marcus Zelee continues to be a name worth following closely in North Carolina. The versatile guard has made a strong impression early at Moravian Prep, embracing the program’s demanding culture while elevating his all-around game. Known for his defensive mindset and ability to impact both ends of the floor, Zelee has found a system that allows him to thrive—whether it’s creating for teammates, attacking the rim, or stretching the floor with his perimeter shooting. Phenom Hoops recently caught up with Zelee to talk about his experience at Moravian Prep, how his game continues to evolve, and the latest updates in his recruitment after reopening his process this summer.
Excitement about Playing at Moravian Prep:
“Definitely, the culture is number one. Every day, we come to practice and work our butts off, and all the coaches push us hard. So definitely the culture and everything surrounding it for sure stands out.”
How does Moravian’s system fit your game:
“Definitely on the defensive end; it is what I pride myself on. Offensively, getting everyone involved is key. I have a lot of shooters, finding them in space, and just allowing me to make plays, whether that is getting to the bucket, kicking it out, or whatever, this system allows me to thrive.”
Game Description:
“I’m a defensive-minded player. I like to play off two feet, attack the rim, shoot, and just like to bring an all-around game.”
Recruitment Update:
At one point, Zelee announced that he would be committed to Iowa State but back in July he announced that he would be reopening his recruitment. Since then, his latest offer came from an in-state school in Charlotte, as they took in a practice recently to watch him.
“They came to our practice and they liked me a lot,” Zelee said. “I shot the ball really well and they just said that I could fit in their system defensively, and that I’m a dog on offense as well.”
Charlotte is one who has entered the picture and continues to stay consistent with him, while schools like Iowa State, Arizona State, Drake, and a few other schools.
“Since I decommitted (from Iowa State), I have talked to them a couple of times so there is no bad blood with them and have developed a nice relationship with them.”
As far as other schools that have shown interest, schools like Oakland, Texas Tech, and a few others have expressed interest. And as far as visits, he hopes to set up a visit to Charlotte soon.
