When it comes to running a team, controlling the pace, and making winning plays, the point guard position is always critical—and the Phenom Hoop State League (West) has been filled with talented floor generals stepping up in big ways. Over the course of the league, we had the chance to evaluate a number of guards, but a few truly separated themselves with their impact, leadership, and ability to dictate the game. These are the top point guards that stood out to our scout, Patrick O’Brien, and the ones who impressed the most with their performance out West.

2026 Aziz Al-Jurhanni (Fayettenam Soldiers)

Strong frame, athletic guard that is able to constantly put pressure on the defense, attack downhill, and create well overall for his team.

2026 Cameron Newman (Fire Babies)

High IQ point guard that carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. Great decision-maker, crafty handles, creates and makes strong decisions, and can be a strong scoring option as well. True leader.

2028 Paul Cauthen (Greyhounds)

Game-changer for his team when he is on the court. Effective on both ends of the floor, quick and shifty with the ball in his hands, consistently gets paint touches, and finds teammates well.

2027 CP Perry (Team Blue)

Scrappy point guard that attacks well in transition, creates off the bounce, and continues to prove that he can be a multi-level scorer as well as a facilitator.

2026 Tucker Robinette (Team Together)

Speedy guard that plays with poise and control. Smart floor general overall that brings an unselfish feel to the court, but also one that can create for himself, get inside the defense, and finish well over defenders.

2026 Ian Bailey (Team Vision)

Poise, control, high IQ… all words that describe his game and impact. Just understands how to read what the defense is giving him, but also is a strong finisher at the rim with bounce.  Continues to improve with his outside game.

2028 Malachi Wilson (Warriors Elite)

The coach’s son who proves to lead and understand how to run an offense. Unselfish and true point guard, Wilson does a great job in getting everyone involved, running what is needed, and making the right decision.

2027 KJ Taylor (Team Point God)

Taylor is a smaller guard who can flourish with his ability to make the right reads, find ways to create opportunities for his teammates, and set them up, but also does a great job of being a scoring factor on the court.

2027 Rylan Leak (Westside Hawks)

Veteran leader for this group that will be relied on heavily this season to control the game, run the offense, be an impact player on both sides, create opportunities for others, and find ways to be a scorer when available.

2026 Mike Jones (Moravian Prep)

Continues to show that he can produce and be an effective point guard out there, using his speed and quickness to his advantage. Elite speed out in transition, athletic, creates well, and gets inside the defense, and can knock down shots.

2028 Micah Gunter (Celtics)

Gunter is a high-level guard in NC, and he continues to show that time after time. Great size, shifty, great change of direction, along with handles, and such a strong scoring option from all levels on the court.
