The Class of 2028 is really starting to take shape here in North Carolina, as we have had a chance to view a lot of rising stars that will be talked about extensively in the coming years. With national rankings being released now for the class, there is one guard that I believe should be earning more attention on the national stage, especially with what we saw recently on the Phenom Hoops platform.
2028 Micah Gunter is a guard that I would really take a closer look at and monitor his development in the coming years. Now standing at a legit 6’3, the point guard has continued to elevate his game, display his composure, and welcome in the bright lights with his game… and he has proven time after time that he can play. Each time we have watched him in action, he has been a standout, even last year with GDS… we had this to say:
“It may be hard to think of a freshman as a stock riser early on but from the start of the season to where it ended, 2028 Mich Gunter from Greensboro Day was one that only got better as the season went on. This is a young prospect that only got better as the season went on, stepped up in bigger situations, and eventually proved that he could be a valuable weapon on the floor. Gunter plays well within the game, not only showing his ability to be a playmaker for himself and others but also an extremely strong weapon with his quickness, his creativity, and his shot making with range. Gunter continues to prove his confidence from behind the arc, showcasing a quick release and his ability to find open spots on the court. But again, he isn’t a one-trick pony with his range as he shows creativity with his handles, along with his ability to create and score over defenders and make high IQ decisions. Which is why this looks to be the start of what could be a tremendous high school career here in North Carolina.”

Fast forward to what we saw at the Seros Invitational, Gunter looks bigger, stronger, and even more refined as a prospect. He has legitimate size at his position, scores the ball with confidence and ease, can be a deadly presence from the perimeter, plays with excellent pace and control in helping run the offense, and can create well for himself with high-IQ decisions. Gunter truly offers a lot of promise at a young age, and I can only think that he will continue to get better as the years go on. Which is why I would be looking harder at Gunter as a bigger national prospect in the state of North Carolina.
