It has been a busy summer for 2027 LJ Smith, as there has been a lot of news surrounding the talented guard. From having a big summer with Team Thad, to racking in big-time offers all over the country to now announcing about transferring to Oak Hill, Smith has been a hot topic for many. Though he may be leaving the state of North Carolina, he remains a hot topic for Phenom Hoops, as he continues to show why he is being ranked as one of the top prospects in the country.

We recently caught up with Smith to ask him a bit about his latest decision to leave Lincolnton and play at Oak Hill, as well as some of the latest in his recruitment that includes a few upcoming visits. Check out some of what he had to say below.

Reviewing His Summer:

“Feel like I had a great summer, showing I could play 17u and have an impact. I just wanted to show that I can play any way my coach needs me to play and do whatever I need to do to win.”

Move to Oak Hill:

“I’m excited to start something new and to know I’m headed to a program that has had a lot of All-Americans and knowing I can be the next if I keep working hard. I know they are going to help me develop and get me to where I need to be.”

Recruitment Update:

Recap of Ohio State Visit:

“The visit has nice facilities, great coaches, and what really stood out to me was the track record Coach Deibler and Coach Justus have had with players from the past that are now in the NBA. I’m trying to find a date to make it back to Ohio State.”

Upcoming Visits:

Right now, Smith has visits to Georgia on September 27th, North Carolina on October 4th, and Tennessee on October 11th. As far as what he is looking for in a program… “Just a place that feels like home and the type of system they run and where I would fit at in their system.”
