Alabama has quietly become a state that continues to produce intriguing basketball talent year after year, and the Class of 2028 is shaping up to be no different. From promising size and athleticism to skilled guards and versatile playmakers, there’s no shortage of young prospects already making noise on the hardwood. While it’s still early in their development, several names are beginning to separate themselves as players to monitor closely. These are the rising talents in Alabama’s 2028 class who have the tools, upside, and potential to be names to watch in the coming years.
2028 6’8 Khalil Luster – Red Bay HS
Last Season: 16.6ppg and 12.0rpg
Luster is one that should be on many radars around the area, and with his combination of size, feel, and impact in a variety of areas, the rising sophomore should have the attention of college programs. At 6’8, Luster shows a strong feel in impacting the game down low, attacking the glass, and being skilled for his size. He is comfortable in operating from multiple levels, comfortably stretching the floor as a big, creating and making plays off the bounce, and showing touch around the basket. That doesn’t mention his feel on the glass and impact on the glass, being a true force on the court.
2028 6’4 Treiy Crenshaw – Douglas HS
Last Season: 10.7ppg and 6.7rpg
Crenshaw is a player who can excel on the court as well as the field, as the multi-sport athlete has shown strong flashes of potential and impact in both areas. When talking about his game on the court, he brings that same athleticism you see on the field, which allows him to be a versatile player. He creates and has shown on several occasions that he can be an effective scoring option, using his size and bounce to his advantage. Crenshaw has the ability to score with his versatility, knocking down shots or attacking and getting downhill to finish.
2028 6’5 Kaleb Ballard – Wetumpka HS
Last Season: 12.3ppg, 9.3rpg, and 4.9bpg
Ballard, who is another multi-sport athlete, is another intriguing prospect to keep an eye on down in Alabama. Standing at 6’5, he has tremendous length with a 7’2 wingspan, using that to his advantage on both sides of the floor. He already holds offers from Troy and Georgia State for football, but you can see that he holds potential on the basketball court as well. Ballard moves well, can finish strong at the rim, runs the floor well, and has timing not only as a rebounder but also as a shot-blocker. He had a strong freshman season at Central Coosa but we shall see what he can do now at Wetumpka. We spoke to Ballard to get his idea of his game, as he had this to say: “I would describe my game as aggressive and versatile, with inside and outside the arch play. My excitement about the upcoming basketball season at my new school stems from the committed team play and the overall positive environment.”
