Thoughts on Commitment:
Georgetown was able to come into North Carolina and secure yet another commitment from the state, as 2026 6’9 Justin Caldwell announced he would be heading there. Caldwell has undoubtedly been a producer down here in NC, being an absolute force and his recruitment really started to take off a little over a year. The Hoyas were one of several programs that joined in on the hunt with an offer, as Caldwell impresses with his blend of physicality and size down in the paint. If you are talking about strength and Big East play, Caldwell certainly fits that mold perfectly. He bullies opponents down in the paint, is physical down in the post, attacks the glass extremely well for his size, and just looks to be a force. With all that in his game, Caldwell should only continue his production at the next level as he develops and adjusts to the collegiate game even more. He will certainly be one to watch in the coming years.
What Was Said By Phenom Hoops Over the Years:
“Arguably the most productive guy on this list, Caldwell has proven to be a valuable asset for Berean since arriving. He’s a strong, physically overwhelming big man with toughness, athleticism, and a quality level of skill. Caldwell is a reliable scorer from the block and midrange area but can also space the floor as needed. He utilizes his body well to gain position and absorb contact as a rebounder and finisher. Caldwell is averaging 22.8 PPG and 4.4 RPG for the Bulldogs.”
“Although big men are known to develop at a slower pace, it’s quite easy to see the foundational appeal of someone like Justin Caldwell. He’s already big, strong, mobile, and physically overwhelming on both ends of the floor. Caldwell is a low-maintenance guy who utilizes his sturdy frame to absorb contact well around the basket, both as a finisher and rebounder, and displays solid timing when altering shots defensively. He possesses useful touch, a quick second/third jump, and excellent rebounding instincts on either side of the ball. Caldwell has notched four double-double performances this season, and should eventually become a nightly threat to reach these numbers. There’s plenty of upside remaining for someone like Caldwell, making him someone to monitor closely over these next few years.”
“He’s a strong, sturdy, physically overwhelming big man with the ability to finish, control the glass, and anchor the paint defensively. Caldwell utilizes his body really well around the basket to secure position and play through contact. In terms of physical tools, he has great hands, length, mobility, and footwork–which immediately puts him ahead of most interior prospects at this stage in his development. Caldwell is able to knock down the occasional midrange jumper, but typically operates from the block or the dunker spot. So much of his appeal comes through his ability to make his presence felt without requiring a lot of touches on offense. Given his current appeal (and obvious amount of upside), college coaches would be wise to start laying groundwork sooner than later.”
