“Thompson is a player who should AUTOMATICALLY be on so many schools’ radar, and he showed that throughout this weekend. Maybe considered the best big at the event, Thompson showed everything in his arsenal with his game. He has a tremendous skillset overall with a great knowledge and feel for the game, excellent footwork, and such a strong feel around the basket. He is also excellent on the boards, playing with relentless energy and motor. However, what makes him so unique is his ability to stretch the floor with a TON of confidence, knocking down three after three after three with confidence. Thompson can hurt you in so many ways, and though he holds two offers right now, that list should immediately increase this summer and quickly.” – 2024
“For a player at his age, Thompson really showed how he can be a dynamic weapon with his size, his skill set, and his ability to be used in so many ways. He was off the charts with his ability to stretch the floor and score in catch-and-shoot situations; a very confident and effective shooter. But he also was able to be effective facing up, creating off the dribble, finishing strong around the paint, seeing and finding his teammates extremely well, and being active on the glass. Thompson is one that you can run the offense through and really mix it up in an array of ways offensively, which makes him a matchup nightmare. And again, we are saying this all for a player that just wrapped up his freshman season.” – 2023
Latest Recruiting News
Thompson has quietly seen his recruitment continue to trend upward, as he has added some impressive offers. He now holds a list of Purdue, Tennessee, East Tennessee State, Appalachian State, Ohio, Xavier, Butler, and Virginia Tech. We can add another program to that list, as Stanford is the latest to enter the picture with an offer.
“They love my game, think I’m more athletic than people think,” Thompson said about the offer from Stanford. “I’m interested in everyone at the moment.”
But what is highly interesting to learn is that there are a few big names expressing interest his way as well, and should be on the radar to watch. In talking with Thompson, he mentioned that Kentucky and Alabama have also reached out. “Alabama has just been asking for my contact, and Kentucky said they can’t wait to see me in Iowa,” he said. He also mentioned that Virginia, Louisville, and Texas have also been reaching out as well.
Right now, he looks to have a Tennessee official in the works, but no date has been officially set.
