Based in Kernersville, NC, the NC Spartans is a summer league basketball organization that is constantly growing and always showing its presence on the Phenom Hoops platform. Over the past few years, we’ve gotten several chances to see them play in action from all age ranges, from middle grades to varsity seniors. This past weekend at the #PhenomSummerShowcase, we continued to see several teams performing and excelling.
One of the main goals of the Spartans is to build a foundation, play the best, and respect the game. Phenom Hoops spoke with Founder/Director Josh Thompson about the growth of the program, their focus, and the steps they have made as they started with one team back in 2010 and now have 30 teams (and growing).
“We have been happy with our last few years. Something that we place a high value on is having great coaches. We feel like that is what makes the experience better, guys that have coached at the middle school and high school levels. We just let them focus on the basketball part and it has paid off in our player’s development and experience. One unique thing also is that we have a recruiting coordinator, who helps our players with recruiting such as GPA, highlights, and helping build relationships. That has added a lot of value as well to our program.”
With that, one can see the growth and fundamentals of the players. This is a program that has produced a ton of talent, and that success should only continue. And Coach Thompson had big words as well with the Phenom platform, as they have been a staple with Phenom Hoops over the last few years.
“The impact with Phenom Hoops has been huge as well,” he said. “With the spotlight Phenom Hoops has given to us, it has added a lot of value as well to our program.”
The NC Spartans want each individual in their program to succeed which is why they work so hard on their development and fundamentals. On Phenom Hoops’ Twitter, we got a chance to catch up with NC Spartans 2024 John Campbell. He says, “I think we have a lot of talent, just keep pushing the ball, share the ball, and really play defense, I think that’s how we win games.”
