Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the March Madness awaiting Piedmont! The Great One is here to release his final F5 rankings of the season. For the 2nd year in a row the NC 4A West Regionals doubled as the Furious 5 Championship Tourney as the top 4 teams in the 5 made the regionals. Myers Park topped Charlotte Catholic and North Meck stopped Vance..er..uh..Chambers in the semis in a double OT affair that many are saying could be the greatest game in Mecklenburg County public school history. (There actually was a game in 1983 between Charlotte Christian and Carolina Christian that went 3 OTs that determined the SPAA Tournament Title, won by Charlotte Christian, which still ranks up there with the top games.) In the finals, The Pony Express kept rolling, this time over North Meck and superstar Isaiah Evans to claim the Furious 5 title and move on to Chapel Hill to the state finals where they will face Rich-WHAT' Rich-MOND. The Vikings made it to their 4th straight Final Four after replacing 9 players from last year’s squad. With the bulk of their scoring returning it’s a safe bet they will make a 5th straight Final Four run next season. It was a great year and we will now close out the final rankings. To the 5!!!
1. MYERS PARK – THE PONY EXPRESS BLOWS INTO CHAPEL HILL AND IS THE FAVORITE TO CUT DOWN THE NETS. CONGRATS ON THE FURIOUS 5 TITLE.
2. NORTH MECK – THE VIKINGS CAME UP SHORT AGAINST THE MUSTANGS AS THEY WERE SIMPLY OUTGUNNED. GREAT YEAR THOUGH. SEASON COMPLETE
3. CHAMBERS – THE COUGARS CAME WITHIN AN EYELASH OF ADVANCING BUT IT WASN’T MEANT TO BE. SEASON COMPLETE
4. CHARLOTTE CATHOLIC – THEY MADE A GREAT RUN BUT RAN INTO JUGGERNAUT MYERS PARK. SEASON COMPLETE
5. ARDREY KELL – SEASON COMPLETE
