Standing 6’6” McCluney carries a wing span of 6’11”. The lefty’s game is sneaky and slithery, much like current East Carolina sophomore Kentrell Barkley.
Much like Barkley, McCluney fills the stat sheet across the board. As a sophomore for Gaston Day last year, McCluney averaged 22.5 points, 10 boards, and 2.5 assists per game. Again, as a sophomore, McCluney led his team in all 3 major statistical categories.
He then parlayed that incredible season to the prestigious North Carolina Top 80 event, where he led the entire event in points per game. The North Carolina Top 80 is a collection of the state’s best players, put on the floor to compete against one another. After McCluney’s performance in the 2016 event we wrote, “His game is unconventional, but his production speaks volumes. McCluney is a lefty, who is very left handed. However, he is also a player who wins every 50/50 ball, attacks the rim with a purpose, and defends multiple positions with quickness and a 6’11” wing span. Evidenced by his performance this weekend, now that McCluney has added 3 point touch, he will have a lot of high scoring outputs. After this event, Charlotte offered expect more to come. McCluney tied for camp lead in scoring at 23.3.”
The academic McCluney does nothing but continue to get better each time out. That has some to do with his immense upside and more to do with his great work ethic, wanting to be great. After his performance at Charlotte’s team camp in June we wrote, “Quan is an effective two-way player that plays with a high motor. He can score from all three levels, but is most effective in attacking the rim and hitting the mid-range jumper. The southpaw has a tremendous 6’11” wingspan and impressed us with his tough perimeter defense. He has the length and athleticism to guard multiple positions and was terrific in stepping into the passing lanes for deflections and steals that led to easy transition points. There are not many players in his class that combine the length, athleticism, skill set unbelievable motor demonstrated on both ends of the court. With Quan, you never have to teach effort, it is a given!”
McCluney already carries 7 offers from the likes of LaSalle, Charlotte, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, and others. Do not let this one fly by, he wins you ball games!
