Player: Maya Robinson
School: NC GBB
Class: 2023
Stats this season: In just two games so far for NC GBB, Robinson has been posting terrific numbers so far in averaging 22.0ppg, 9.5rpg, 10.0apg, and 2.0spg in helping her team to a 2-0 record. Last year as a junior, she averaged 17.0ppg, 4.6rpg, and 0.9apg.
The senior that is already committed and signed to Charleston Southern, Robinson has had a strong high school career and is looking to go out in a big way. She is helping build the program at NC GBB and is one of the clear leaders for this year’s team, so we are looking to dive into more about her game, what she provides, and what she has been able to do for NC GBB.
We spoke recently with head coach Ty Cox, asking him a few questions about his terrific senior. Let’s learn more about Robinson.
How would you best describe her game and where she excels'
“I would describe Maya as a Chelsea Gray “power guard” with her physicality and playmaking ability, combined with Kelsey Plum’s scoring and craftiness. She is pretty much a mismatch night in and night out at the high school level. If they are small and quick, she will overpower them. If they are bigger, she will score from the perimeter or beat them off the dribble. Maya is arguably the top scoring wing player in the state.”
How important has she been for your team early on as a leader'
“Maya’s importance to our program is immeasurable. She has been the foundational player for NC GBB Academy since I started it in 2020 after coaching 15 years at Jordan high school. She has now helped us transition to the next generation and will be leaving NC GBB in very good hands with our talented 8th-11th graders when she graduates to play at Charleston Southern.”
