Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Christian Cornish
Class: 2022
Committed to: Lees McRae
2021-22 Season in Review:
Cornish has a critical piece for Lake Norman Christian this past season. With his veteran leadership, his physical play, and ability to play multiple positions, Cornish finished the season playing in 25 games and averaging 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
“Cornish finds ways to make plays and contribute despite not being tasked to operate as a leading scorer or offensive focal point. Anyone with eyes can see that Cornish is an absolute physical specimen with great size, ridiculous strength, and noteworthy explosiveness. That being said, he finds majority of his opportunities as a hard-nosed defender and utility player with an understanding of how to effectively fill in the gaps on both ends of the floor. Cornish is a capable scorer and highlights useful skill within his game, but genuinely thrives at doing the little things.”
“6’4 2022 Christian Cornish is another guard who will contribute significantly. He is one of the strongest guards, if not the strongest, in the area. He excels when attacking the basket. He utilizes his strength when finishing through contact. As a guard, he rebounds well on both ends of the floor. He crashes the offensive glass hard, giving his team second chance opportunities. On the defensive end, he is an active on-ball defender and plays the passing lanes well.”
“Players with size, toughness, and a blue-collar approach are always able to find value, regardless of setting, and Christian Cornish certainly possesses those traits. We’ve previously spoken about how coaches will say, “well if they could do (insert skill here), then we would offer,” and it’s been said about Cornish’s three-point shooting. Let’s be honest, if he were shooting 40% from distance, do these schools unwilling to offer really think they could get him' He’s built like a tank, plays extremely hard, and consistently produces as a defender, rebounder, and hustle player. Sure, Cornish could be more polished, but it’s not like he’s a finished product. Currently holding an offer from St. Augustine, he should continue to see scholarship-level programs get involved.”
“One would be hard-pressed to find many better utility players than Cornish, especially given his production throughout this showing. He possesses the innate ability to make an incredible impact without necessarily needing to score the ball. Cornish plays extremely hard, defends multiple positions, and fills in the gaps effectively on offense. He can score, but typically looks to keep the ball moving and establish himself within the flow of the action.”
