Over the past few months, Phenom Hoops has been fortunate enough to see a vast majority of private school teams across North Carolina. Though they haven’t been widely discussed as a team worth noting, Providence Day School has shown some excellent flashes throughout the early season. After previously having NBA players on the roster, things have shifted into a different direction for Brian Feld and his staff. The coaching has remained in-tact but the roster has been in constant flux ever since the departures of Devon Dotson, Grant Williams, and Trey Wertz. So, let’s take a look at the personnel who is currently keeping this ship afloat…

After deciding to transfer during the summer, Quave Propst-Allison immediately became the Chargers’ new leader. Thus far, it’s more than worked out, as he’s shown high comfort levels at running the offense, dictating the action, and commanding attention from opposing defenses. Propst-Allison applies nonstop scoring pressure, particularly as a downhill penetrator, and understands how to create for himself and others within the flow of the team. His blend of speed and quickness make him a difficult assignment for opposing guards to keep in front. Propst-Allison’s two-way leadership brings obvious value to this group.
Meanwhile, Bryce Scott provides grit, toughness, and a blue-collar presence on both ends of the floor. He’s strong, physical, and plays bigger than his size, making him a vital piece for the Chargers. Scott battles for rebounds, loose balls, and actively switches across multiple positions defensively. While his contributions might not be as appealing as some, there’s simply no denying what he brings to the table. In addition, Joe McDonough offers a strong burst of perimeter shooting. He plays within his role, defends effectively, and hits shots within the flow of the offense. His low-maintenance identity is so useful, as it allows him to apply consistent pressure without requiring a ton of touches.
The remainder of this roster is full of capable varsity contributors, but this group will ultimately go wherever the aforementioned trio will take them. Coach Feld and company should continue being a team worth keeping an eye on, especially if they continue on their current trajectory over the next calendar year.
