Myles Derricott 6’3 160 2023 Patrick Henry HS/VA Havoc

Myles has a fantastic basketball frame featuring a long wingspan, high hips, and broad shoulders. His frame suggests plenty of vertical growth lies within. He is an elite athlete who combines a strong core with very good quickness and relentless energy. Myles demonstrates high-level shot-making skills and three-point range and is adept at scoring off the dribble using his quickness, rangy strides, and fearlessness attacking space and getting to the rim where he is a fantastic finisher. He has excellent shot mechanics and a fluid, high release which coupled with his length makes his shot difficult to contest. He shows very good consistency on catch and shoot jumpers but also converts at a high rate when shooting off the dribble. Myles is so dangerous attacking off the bounce where he combines a creative handle, a slippery slashing style with great body control, and a deft shooting touch while on the move. He also demonstrates excellent vision and decision-making skills and delivers timely and accurate passes. His length allows him to not only shoot over most guards but also allows him to pass over the top of defenses. His footwork is textbook, he uses quick hip turns and a powerful burst with blow-by quickness.

In addition to his quickness, Myles breaks defenders down with sound ballhandling skills featuring crossovers and between the legs dribbles, stepbacks and timely hesitations, great body control. He can pull up on a dime and bury the jumper or use step backs to create separation. Myles has an impressive arsenal of offensive scoring moves and great instincts. He comfortably produces from either guard position and offers versatility on both ends of the floor. He is a high motor, sticky defender utilizing his length, wingspan, and lateral quickness who can lock down the best of playmakers and his length makes him a factor in passing lanes where he demonstrates very good anticipation skills. His end to end quickness allows him to turn a steal into quick baskets at the other end. He is also a rebounding presence and is someone you have to keep a body on because he’s so active and athletic allowing him to make plays all over the floor. Myles is a two-sport star at Patrick Henry High School where he is also a strong-armed quarterback and elusive ball carrier.

In his first year of football last year as the JV quarterback, he passed for 19 touchdowns and just 1 interception! Myles comes from athletic roots and a family of high school and college athletes in both football and basketball. His Dad, John Derricott played high school basketball at Patrick Henry High School and is pivotal in his athletic and academic success overseeing his training and reinforcing the need for academic excellence which Myles delivers as evidenced by his 3.2 GPA! Myles’ uncle, D’Vonta Derricott helps with his weight training and conditioning. D’Vonta was a highly recruited linebacker out of Hermitage HS (Richmond) who went on to play his college football at Kansas State before transferring to Eastern Kentucky. His uncle Daninelle Derricott quarterbacked Patrick Henry to the 1994 state championship and went on to enjoy a stellar career as a cornerback at Marshall University and was inducted into the 2016 Marshall University Hall of Fame before a brief career in the Canadian Football League. Another uncle, Dominic Smith went on to play college basketball at the University of Houston.

Quite the family history of successful student-athletes to provide a solid foundation for Myles as he embarks on what looks to be an outstanding athletic and academic future. I expect he too, will enjoy similar success.
