Cheyenne Alston 5’11 150 2019 Churchill Academy, Richmond VA

Cheyenne is an explosive athlete who combines his elite athleticism with very good skills and a natural feel. He has tremendous end to end speed and a quick handle. A blur in transition he has the ability to weave through traffic and make a dribble move mid stride and not lose a step. Keeps his head up and can fire a full court pass with good velocity to a teammate streaking ahead in transition. In the half court Cheyenne has an outstanding first step from both a stand still position and off the dribble and has great shiftiness that allows him to get to the rim at will. He also has a tight handle and does a terrific job of changing gears; his ability to play slow to fast coupled with his quick and crafty handle makes him difficult to stay in front of. When he has a driving lane to the basket he shows a tremendous burst and change of pace and is a crafty finisher at the rim. His abrupt starts and stops and explosiveness makes his ball handling ability even more effective. He has the ability to drive hard to the rim with either hand. He uses a variety of dribble moves and counter moves to freeze his defender from quick, low crossovers to hesitations and step back crossovers to in and outs and each accompanied by his seemingly effortless ability to stop on a dime and then explode by his man. He creates space with a quick pop back dribble move then off a dribble hesitation can crossover and blow by a defender or once he gets the defender leaning can simply pull the jumper off the separation. He has excellent footwork on his crossover into his pull up jump shot where he is capable of knocking it down if given an inch of space. Cheyenne has very good vision and always keeps his head up showing the ability to deliver accurate passes to teammates running the floor and make pinpoint passes off the dribble to a cutting teammate. Cheyenne can hit the three point jumper off the dribble which opens up the floor for his dribble penetration. Defensively he has outstanding lateral quickness and quick reaction time. He has active hands and a great motor and brings high activity off the ball where he is a threat to get steals in passing lanes and go coast to coast. Cheyenne is a joy to watch and his playmaking skills makes him one of the most impactful guards in the area. Should see some college interest come his way this season.
