The Cox Falcons return most of the key players from their Region A Championship team and are looking
forward to another state title run in 2018-19. A huge part of their success was the play of guard Keshawn
Lewis who set the tone on both ends of the floor with his scrappy play. Can the Falcons fill that void'
Let’s take a look at the defending regional champion Cox Falcons!
The defending VHSL Class 6 Region A Champion and state semi finalist Cox Falcons enjoyed the best
season in school history last year capturing the school’s first ever regional basketball crown racking up a
21-4 record. Many of the key figures in that memorable season return for another shot at a state title led
by long range bomber and recent Lynchburg University commit Kavon James. James is the Falcons’
leading scorer each of the last two seasons and can fill it up from beyond the arc. Another huge piece of
last year’s success and the heart and soul of the team is point guard Jordan Lewis (13.8ppg). Lewis is a
tough and scrappy competitor who brings great energy and productivity on both ends of the floor.
Virginia Tech football commit Tayvion Robinson (5’10 2019) will return and brings not only his elite
athleticism and energy but Tayvion is a very talented basketball player who brings double figure scoring
and lockdown defense. One of the key players for Cox down the stretch last year was 6’2 junior forward
DeShaun Creighton. Creighton is extremely athletic and bouncy and plays much taller than 6’2 as he
rebounds and defends the post well. He can also step out and knock down the 15 footer with good
accuracy. He will obviously be called upon once again and his growth over the last year has been
impressive and he will be more than ready to answer the call. 6’3 Freshman sharpshooter Will Bonde is a
newcomer who has a chance to be a special player. He has length and a discipline shooting stroke and is
a three point threat opponents will have to account for. Another key newcomer is 5’10 senior guard
Darrien Pratt, younger brother of Cox two sport star and Virginia Tech football commit Tayvion
Robinson. Pratt had a solid coming out party with a strong weekend at the Virginia Wesleyan University
team camp where he shot the ball extremely well from beyond the arc and was one of the teams’ top
scorers over the weekend. Another shot making threat who should contribute is 6’0 senior guard Anthony
Schlick.
The Falcons won’t replace the scoring, the energy and toughness that Keyshawn Lewis provided but all of
the other main ingredients from last season’s regional championship team return not at all satisfied with
how their season ended. This is a tough, goal oriented group and Coach Bobby Wolfe has established
himself among the top motivators and X’s and O’s guys in the area. You can expect this athletic and
unselfish group to still be scratching and clawing deep into March.
