Zy’Ever is an ultra athletic and quick guard with very good length and tremendous bounce! He has an impressive physical profile for the position at 6’2+ with a 6’5 wingspan and broad shoulders giving every indication he will enjoy more vertical growth. Zy’Ever has a very good handle and can break a defender down with quick crossover and between the legs dribble moves and some hesitation just enough to get a defender leaning then use his long, rangy and decisive strides to attack the paint where he is a threat to score or make the pass to a cutter. He makes strong, confident moves with the ball in his hands. He also protects the ball by shielding it with his body and by using his strength to fight off contact. Zy’Ever plays with a steady pace, changes gears and directions very well and creates space by initiating contact. He is fearless attacking the basket with strength, decisiveness and tremendous bounce as demonstrated in a recent tournament with a pair of vicious dunks, one on a 6’10 defender! He demonstrated his blow by quickness turning the corner then went right at a defensive big, rose up with rocket-like elevation and threw down a two hand slam that sent the gym into a frenzy! Zy’ever is a threat to score with the jumper well beyond three point range and is a go to scorer on his AAU team in addition to running the offense; finds a good blend of scoring and playmaking and picks his spots well. Either on a catch and shoot or off the dribble he buries the jumper with good consistency. He moves off the ball, making himself available for kickouts on the perimeter, as he cuts with purpose and looks for angles where he can get open for the catch and shoot. Zy’Ever is really exciting in transition as he is excellent at advancing the ball intelligently and with a sense of urgency to spark the break. He consistently has his head up early in the backcourt and is willing to pass the ball ahead to the open man in transition. Defensively he is a solid on ball defender; moves his feet well and can combine quick feet and length to hamper opposing ball handlers. He has very good instincts off the ball, quick to jump passing lanes and get steals. Zy’Ever shows a lot of toughness and plays with great positive energy, he loves to compete! This is most evident watching him battle for rebounds and lose balls. He gets after the basketball and his length, strength and athleticism coupled with his great motor and effort makes him someone opponents had better account for because he can contribute in so many ways and works tirelessly to posses the basketball. This coming high school season will be a breakout year for this talented student athlete. A 3.6 GPA in the classroom and a tireless work ethic on the practice court, Zy’Ever Wingfield is a prospect college coaches should get familiar with.
