
It was the last game of the night on Wednesday, and it was another thrilling game, as Mallard Creek and Hoggard battled it out on the court. A highly intense game throughout, these teams competed throughout the game. Mallard Creek was able to grab the narrow lead after the first quarter, but Hoggard took back the lead in the second quarter. Mallard Creek answered right back and was able to take a narrow 21-18 lead at halftime. The second half was much like the first, as it was a back-and-forth affair.
Mallard Creek did go up by seven points near the three-minute mark, but Hoggard answered right back with 10 straight points to take a three-point lead in the fourth quarter. Teams were trading baskets back and forth, and we ended up being tied after four quarters.
In overtime, Mallard Creek was able to knock down key shots while Hoggard got to the free throw line, eventually tying the game back up at 45 with 1:25 to go in the game. That is when My’Asia Young came up big with 26 seconds, and Sydney McGuire was able to ice it from the line to give Mallard Creek the 8A State Championship.
After making several deep runs in the playoffs, this was the year they were able to raise the championship trophy, winning 49-45 in overtime.
