Upside does not begin to describe the entirety of Moses Wright. Intrigue seems to fall short of a good descriptor as well. Just know that while Moses Wright is averaged over 22 points and 11 rebounds per game, his best basketball is clearly ahead of him.
Just two years ago, as a sophomore, Wright stood 6’5”. He was very long and awkward, he clearly hadn’t grown into his body. However, he had great touch and ran really well. Last year Wright played basketball for Raleigh Homeschool.
After a year in hiding, Wright then showed up at the Spring NC Phenom 150 camp as a long, coordinated, 6’8” skilled forward. The transformation had started, he was becoming a late-blooming stud. After his performance during this camp we wrote, “Moses is a very long and athletic forward with a matching skill set. He was so impressive at the NC Phenom 150 that he earned a spot in the prestigious NC Top 80 event where he went on to showcase his skill set. Coach Moxley stated, “Moses knocked down 15 foot jumpers the entire day and demonstrated excellent footwork around the basket. He ran the floor well and finished with authority.” In addition, Moses is a solid defender who length is used to block and alter shots. The next step in his development is to fill out his frame with muscle and become physically stronger. That being said, Moses has the length, athleticism and skill set to become a legit collegiate prospect.”
Wright has a unique skill set, but he is very self-aware as to what he is and what he does, “I am a stretch-big. I do well in the mid-range and can step out and knock down a 3-point shot. Defensively, I use my length and I really try to be a factor on the offensive glass, get second chance opportunities.” Wright says he has been watching a lot of Lamarcus Aldridge lately, but he readily admits that Jimmy Butler is far and away his favorite player.
His play at the Phenom 150 earned Moses an invite to the prestigious North Carolina Top 80 camp. The NC Top 80 brings together the best talent across the state to compete against one another for maximum exposure. After Wright’s performance in this camp we wrote, “Moses absolutely had a strong March with the events sponsored by the Phenom Hoop Report. He has tremendous length and unique ability to run the court extremely well. Coach Mills stated, “Moses is an excellent athlete that has a good skill set. He can rebound and push the ball in transition and can grab a rebound and go coast to coast.” In addition, Moses has the ability to score from all three levels on the court and has the ability to score off the bounce with spin moves along with plays in heavy traffic in the paint. He has great versatility and mobility for his size/position and could be sleeper in his class.”
Right now the 6’8” unsigned senior has no Division 1 offers. The likes of Catawba and Mt Olive have offered and he has already taken an official visit to Catawba. During last night’s game, Charlotte Head Coach Mark Price was in watching as was East Carolina. Wright has also recently heard from Georgia Tech.
He states that he will not play AAU again this summer, and last night was Enloe’s final game of the year. Wright is already college qualified with a 2.9 GPA qualifying SAT score. He is a true late bloomer, but he is also someone who is clearly just starting to realize his immense potential.
