Heading around the country, Phenom Hoops has been talking to players to get the latest recruiting update from players. We recently spoke with a freshman guard that certainly has a chance to be a big name. Already earning his first offer before stepping on the floor in his high school career in New Mexico, 2024 Amari Brown could quickly be a name to be familiar with. We discuss how his summer has gone for him, his excitement about playing at Cibola high school, and his thoughts on receiving an offer so early in his basketball career.

PHR: First off, how has everything been going so far as basketball for you'
Brown: It’s been pretty good. I’ve been at a couple of camps and did really well.

PHR: What camps were you able to go to and what were you hoping to show early on with your game'
Brown: Pangos and The West Coast Elite Top 100 camp. I was just showing my point guard skills and scoring ability and play on both ends of the court. I made the Top 60 at the West Coast Elite Top 250; it was only me and a few other freshmen that made it that high.

PHR: What did that recognition show you in competing with older players and showing you can play with them'
Brown: It let me know that I could play at a high level if I just keep working.

PHR: What has been your focus in preparing for your high school career'
Brown: Just still working on my craft and conditioning. We haven’t been able to play due to Covid-19. (Note: In New Mexico, they plan on playing in March)

PHR: How excited are you to get on the court and start your high school career'
Brown: I’m very excited and just ready to prove to everyone that I can still do what I do at the high school level.

PHR: How would you best describe your game on the court'
Brown: A three-level scorer. (I like to operate best) in the open floor and I play mostly point guard. I like to attack in transition and I would say my passing ability (is the most underrated attribute to my game).

PHR: What areas of your game are you hoping to continue to work on in the near future'
Brown: Getting stronger and reading the defense.

PHR: Congrats on receiving your first offer so early from Western Illinois. What was that like for you and what were your thoughts on the offer'
Brown: It was really exciting and just proud of myself, knowing my hard work is paying off.

PHR: Were you able to find out what they liked about your game'
Brown: I can just share that they like my overall game.

PHR: Do you know anything about the program as well'
Brown: It’s really early but they are a nice all-around program.
